Proud Songster

Proud Songster

“The thrushes sing as the sun is going,
And the finches whistle in ones and pairs”

[Proud Songster – Thomas Hardy]

During a period of 100 days in 1994, a group of Hutu extremists slaughtered an estimated 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus. Inspired by the Thomas Hardy poem, Proud Songster tells the story of Sarah, a young English teacher, working at a church mission school in Rwanda.

One of four winners of Channel 4’s “The Radio Play’s The Thing” competition. Recorded by Sony Radio Award-winning Producer John Dryden (Goldhawk Productions) and Oscar-nominated New Zealand director Andrew Foster (“Flight of the Concords”, “Two Cars, One Night”).
