MSIN101P: The Art and Science of Management

This module serves as the framing module for the Management Science BSc/MSci programme. During the module, students explore the range of opportunities and problems faced by managers in global companies and high-growth businesses tackling world-scale problems. Students are introduced to key interdisciplinary management challenges, such as: complexity, scale, growth, innovation, disruptive technology, collaboration, uncertainty and risk, and explore the value of different ways of thinking about management problems. Students explore what engineering thinking brings to management and the challenges of designing, building and operating organisations (made out of people) at scale (“Management as an extreme engineering discipline”). Students use the Business Model Canvas to understand how organisations create, deliver and capture value and explore the design of organisations and their business models.
